Mold in your home?

"On the seventh day the priest shall return to inspect the house. If the mildew [which some scholars translate as plague or leprosy] has spread on the walls, he is to order that the contaminated stones be torn out and thrown into an unclean place outside the town. If the mildew reappears in the house after the stones have been torn out and the house is scraped and plastered, it is a destructive mildew and the house is unclean. It must be torn down - its stones, timbers and all the plaster - and taken out of town."        Leviticus, Chapter 14: 39-47

While chemical, technological and building methods have progressed since this biblical work order for mold remediation, its basic tenets are just as valid today as they were then.   Mold must be remediated quickly to avoid the potential of having to "tear it down."   Don’t start down this path without experienced professional legal help.  Schedule a consultation.

Unfortunately, in the Washington area, mold remediation specialists are not required to be licensed in that specialty and may not be trained or certified.  [See Article by Harvey S. Jacobs, Washington Post, Friday, February 4, 2011.]

Home Disaster

We at White & Horton always hear stories of  homeowners hiring a contractor to do work on a home addition, kitchen, bathroom, roof, painting, flooring and all other types of home improvement.  It starts out fine and then something goes wrong.  The contractor does not complete the work and walks off the job with the money already invested.

Our office likes to prevent this from happening.  We look at the contract before you sign and work starts.  We make sure the contract protects the homeowner in case of a disaster.  In addition, we help with a payment plan and schedule.  We will be there to help with communication between homeowner and contractor.

Don't wait until your back is up against a wall.  Take preventative measures prior to hiring a contractor to do a home improvement project.
